Can I Continue To Make Reborns?

I've been thinking a lot about whether or not I will continue to reborn. I've known for a long time that the reborn market is unbalanced. It costs more to make a reborn than what most collectors are able to pay.

It costs me close to $1,000 to transform a vinyl kit into a life-like baby. After reviewing my finances, I can not afford to reinvest in another reborn. With the holiday season approaching, I can't afford to go into debt. My two year old is looking forward to a fun Halloween party and a delightful Christmas. I can not justify slighting her to further contribute to an unbalanced market.

I am so hurt and disappointed right now. But in the words of retired reborn artist Meredith, I simply can not justify this hobby any longer. I don’t have the necessary funds to make someone else happy while my family and I are left hurting. :(

Xoxo,
Brooke Nicole

  1. Oh my gosh! Your giving up reborning? Your the best out there! I understand how you feel. I have 4 kids all under the age of 8 and I know the holidays are coming around I had 2 babies that sold for cost of making the doll. Are you still going to continue in your photography? Im looking to do portraits for people and make money on the side if I get good enough. I hope to still see some babies from you once in a while.

  2. Oh thanks so much Jennifer. I am looking forward to learning to sculpt. I'll definitely continue with photography. I'm hoping that I can afford more equipment since I won't be losing money on reborning anymore. If I do create the occasional reborn, it will have to be a paid for custom order, no more independent projects. The reborn market is tough! Good luck to you and your lovely babes!

  4. ooooh sooo saaaad ! you're sooo talented ! I am going to miss your babies sooo badly ! however I can understand as too many people are selling dolls and nothing has the real value any longer... If I could afford it, I would order you a baby... but I must admit an artist doll is not for me !
good you go on with photography, your pics are so beautiful !

  7. Not many people understand the cost involved when making a reborn doll. Especially reborns of the highest quality like your own. Also the hours and hours of time involved too. The retired artist you quoted wad spot on.
