Nikon Hunt

Saturday, November 20, 2010

I shipped the Canon off this morning, so I am now hunting for a bargain on a Nikon D300s. I doubt I will find a used one for a good (significantly lower than full retail...lol) price, but I am willing to wait until Christmas...okay, maybe not that long! :) I was not totally WOW'ed by the Nikon D90, so I hope I love the D300s. I am just not as into photography as I used to be. Hopefully, a new cam and a couple of indoor photo sessions with my daughter will bring back the love.

A Break From A Break : Nikon D90

Wednesday, April 21, 2010

I am taking a break from my break because....

My Nikon D90 body arrived today! I have wanted to try this particular camera for a while. It has video capabilities, so I am really excited about that. I am trying to decide which lens I want to try. The Nikkor 85mm f/1.8D looks like fun, but I am afraid it will be too long for the D90. I also want to try a good macro lens and the Cactus triggers. I have some research to do! I have missed photography. I have not been able to do much lately because I have been so busy, but that is going to change this summer. :-)

I will post more about the D90 when my lenses and triggers arrive. I am so excited!

I know some of you ladies from Toni's forum want to know about my Strobist lighting setup and no worries, I am not ignoring you, I am still writing the blog post explaining how I use it. It may not be the right way, but it works for me most of the time, hehe. I need to get a lens for my new camera so that I can take pictures of my actual setup. Pictures will make the post more meaningful, lol.

Okay, back to rooting now, promise!

Nikon D70

Friday, December 04, 2009

Ok, so I bought a Nikon D70. I didn’t have any luck camera shopping on Black Friday. Best Buy was such a waste of time! LOL

The Nikon D70 is an older model. I got mine used for $229.00. A few photographers at a forum gave me some advice: “Purchasing a bunch of expensive equipment will not make you a better photographer. It is the photographer, not the camera.”

I really needed that advice. I will admit that I sought out expensive SLR’s during 2009 (like the $2,700 Canon 5D Mark II) to improve my photography. I really need to practice more to improve, not spend unnecessary money.

The D70 is a good unit to practice with. I bought a 50mm 1.4 to go with it. Everything should arrive next Wednesday or Thursday, so I can finally get some shots of my Estelle! I finished painting her last night and I am ready to root her hair. Her skin tone turned out nicely. It is very close to my daughter’s fair AA skin tone. I think I finally found a formula for the skin tone I have been desperately trying to achieve since last year. Raw Sienna is the ticket! I wrote down every little thing I did to Estelle. I will post everything soon.

Update:

BH sent me an email to say the camera is actually out of stock and issued me a refund. :( I do not know what I am going to get now....I guess I will wait for another to come up. I have a lens on the way though. Yippeee. lol

My 27th birthday present to myself!

Monday, October 19, 2009

My birthday is in exactly 11 days. I spotted this beauty for sale and I couldn't pass up a good deal. I managed to purchase this refurbished Nikon D60 and 18-55mm lens for about $450 from B&H Photo Video. It is not what I really want right now. Like I discussed a couple of weeks ago, I would like to have a camera with video capabilities, but I am trying to be frugal for the upcoming holiday season.

I took a look through the images at Flickr taken with this camera/lens combination and I was particularly impressed! I figured I may as well try it out out for my new baby's shoot. I'll probably end up selling it immediately after the shoot and trying something else. Whatever I try next will definitely be a Nikon. I am head over heels for Nikon! Canon who? LOL

Xoxo,
BN
