The Sun Came Out For Me!

Wednesday, October 10, 2012

I lucked up this morning!  The sun gave me a break.  I guess he could tell I was desperate, lol! Omigosh, to be honest, I was totally depressed about Preston’s cloudy photo shoot yesterday. The cloudy light made him look one dimensional and shiny. Depth is my “thing” when it comes to doll making, and not being able to show Preston’s depth was a big deal to me.

With winter coming, I know the sun light will be hard to come by, so I have already researched artificial lighting options. From what I have read, large soft boxes closely mimic sun light. I sure hope a soft box works for me because I need to show my hard work. :)  Keep your fingers and toes crossed for me. I’ll post a review of the soft box when I receive it in case other photographers need a winter lighting alternative.

Preston's To-Do List Explained

Monday, September 24, 2012

I wanted to explain what I meant about adding baby hairs to Preston.  Looking at his tester shot, I can see that his hairline is not as symmetrical as I’d like, so I need to add baby hairs to his right temple. Some say asymmetry makes dolls look more realistic, but I personally disagree. I crave symmetry, lol! I’d go crazy without it.

Also, for those who may want to order a Shyann face sculpt from me in the future, please allow an additional four weeks for your baby’s creation. Shyann takes longer for me to paint than most other sculpts.  In order to make Shyann look like he or she is breathing, I have to put my painting skills to the test. I basically paint a face on top of a blank vinyl face, and it takes a longggggg time.  With other sculpts, I can enhance features that are already present, but with Shyann, I have to add features plus enhance them.  Make sense?

If I went into more detail, I’d be giving away some of my very valuable business secrets, so I will leave the rest to your imagination! :) I just wanted to post this notice for anyone considering Shyann.

...and a photo of his curlicues!  I added a small dollop of Giovanni Direct Leave-In, and the ringlets just bounced right up and dried this way.  I love this mohair!  Thank you, Joanna! :)

Anywhoo, I will be back soon with photos of a completed Preston, and a sneek peek of my next baby, Sarah Bella! :)

Preston's Final Phase of Painting

Sunday, September 23, 2012

Hola amigos! :) This is definitely not a lazy Sunday for me. Little Preston is keeping me busy busy. I finished rooting his hair last night, so I am starting on his final phase of painting today.

He is wearing temporary eyes in the above photo, so don't judge him, lol! :) I should have a final photo shoot by this weekend depending on how long it takes the eye glaze to dry. I just love Preston so far. His paint looks sooooo smooth and silky, omigosh, I can't wait to see him assembled! ♥

Liu San by Adrie Stoete

Thursday, June 16, 2011

Have I already posted about this new kit? If so, please forgive me, you know I am obsessed with Adrie's sculpts and of course, Asian kits. I don't see many Asian kits available, so when I do notice one, I get all warm and fuzzy inside, lol! I love the lips and toes on this little one! Liu San is scheduled to be released next month and I can't wait. She and Lulu Stoete will make great fraternal twins.

*SOLD* Lulu Stoete kit on eBay!

Tuesday, April 12, 2011

Hi everyone! I listed one of my Lulu kits on eBay. I really went overboard with the duplicates. I am also planning to list Noelle Stoete, Noah Schick, Angelica Schick, Michelle Wosnjuk, Noe Wosnjuk, Vienna Arcello, Shyann Peterson, and Nina Legler...:) The closet is overflowing! lol

My New Barbara Kit

Sunday, December 06, 2009

I traded my Kaelyn kit by Tamie Yarie for Barbara by Adrie Stoete today. I saw a reborned Barbara on eBay and fell in love! Apparently, this kit has been released for a while, but I'd never heard of it. Adrie has so many cute kits, it is hard to keep up with them all.

I love Barbara's fussy expression! It is so unique. And, I hear she is a big baby which means that she can wear my new Bunnies By The Bay dress. Unless of course she turns out to be a boy...

I tried to do some holiday shopping yesterday and I did not have fun. I get so worked up buying gifts for friends and family. I am always so worried they won't like the gifts. I guess I will do Amazon gift cards again this year. lol My daughter's gifts will be easy because I love shopping for toys! I will try not to pick up any dolls for myself, but some of those Cabbage Patch Kids are irresistible. Yup, I am a dollaholic for life and proud of it! haha

Gotta Have This One!

1. Her name is Lulu.

2. Yes, she is Asian. Not all Asians have super almond-shaped eyes. Thank goodness for another Asian kit!

3. I want the kit.

4. I want the prototype reborn. Helen Jalland did an amazing job reborning her!

5. Adrie Stoete-Schiuteman deserves an award and a red carpet event for being the best sculptress ever.

6. So many kits, so little time!

7. I just can't take my eyes off of Lulu's little face. Blasian? Oh yeah, that is definitely what my Lulu will be. I cannot wait!

8. I am sure you already knew what I was going to say before you read it. lol

Baby Liu

Thursday, July 23, 2009

Adrie Stoete-Schiuteman is such an amazing sculptor, isn't she? This OOAK baby will be reproduced as a kit. What a darling girl! She has Blasian (black & Asian) written all over her face, and I simply can't wait to get my paws on her! hehe

Adrie says it will be a while before Liu is released, so I am glad to have Lotus to work on in the mean time. I know I promised progress shots of Lotus, but I don't have a camera at a moment. I sold my Canon 5D Mark II.

I know I said I loved the Canon 5D Mark II, and I still do, but my curiousity about Nikon got the best of me. I ordered one last night, and it should ship tomorrow! Yay!

I am fully aware that I have a camera buying/selling problem, and that I need professional help. hehe I'll seek help after I have fun with that yummy Nikon, I promise! LOL

Busy BN

That subject line is a bit lame, I know. :) But I have a reason to be goofy this afternoon. I am excited about the Lotus custom order I'll be working on for the next few weeks and I had to blog about it!

I love the Lotus kit. There is a serious lack of Asian sculpts in the reborn community so I begged {ever so talented sculptress} Adrie Stoete-Schuiteman to make the OOAK version of Lotus into a kit. I was asked to reborn the Lotus prototype last year, but I had to back out at the last minute. I felt so bad.

I wanted to reborn a regular Lotus kit after that, but due to the painting service, custom orders, and the paint fumes ordeal, Lotus never found her way to my work table. I am so thrilled to finally have time to reborn such an amazing kit.

I have always seen the Lotus sculpt as a Southeast Asian baby girl, so I will be giving her a deep tan skin tone. My hopes are that she will closely resemble an infant of Cambodian descent.

I will be posting progress shots of Lotus here while I am painting her. I will share some paint color information as well in case I can help anyone make a darker-skinned Asian baby of their own.

Painting will commence next week! Thank you for reading about my joy.

Xoxo,
BN
