Safe and Back to Shopping

Tuesday, August 30, 2011

Hey ladies! I returned home Sunday evening and I am so glad the storm was not as bad as originally predicted. There were a few downed trees in my neighborhood and a partial power outage, but other than that, everything is peachy. My heart goes out to those who were affected by the tropical storm. I hope you all are able to recover quickly. ♥

BSD is down again but I wanted to thank everyone for coming out to the rescheduled painting class Sunday afternoon. Emme Jae and I had an awesome time chatting and painting with everyone! :) I hope we can do it again soon. There will be a Q&A chat session on BSD Thursday night for the ladies in group #4. Anyone is welcome to join though. Just click the chat link and start typing, lol. :)

Notice I changed my profile picture to the one Lexus took of me goofing around in Toni's bathroom after class, LOL! :)

Kit shopping is the name of my game today. Not much to do here at work, so I found this adorable kit by the ever so talented Bonnie Brown! Sophia is PERFECTION! She looks a lot like my daughter Emme Jae did at three months old. The chubby cheeks, chubby hands and equally chubby legs bring back major memories. :) I will not reborn Sophia as a portrait of Emme Jae though. I would like to see Sophia as a darker Blasian baby. *wink*

I signed up to be notified by Bountiful Baby when they restocked Shyann. I received notification on Saturday and immediately purchased. This adorable kit just sells out so quickly. I think this Shyann will look great in the Hug Me First outfit I have on the way. *wink*

Shopping is definitely not over for me today. Stay tuned for my Macy's finds, lol. Have a great week, ladies!

Perfect Booties and Storm

Wednesday, August 24, 2011

These booties are perfection. If you don't believe me, just look at them. *wink* I purchased them from eBay a couple days ago, and they are BEAUTIFUL! They will match my new smocked diaper set wonderfully. I love the pink soles and the oval pattern on the booties. It is rare to find handmade, crocheted booties with a light pink sole. If you want I pair, I highly recommend eBay seller sew_sweetboutique.

Now for the serious stuff:

Hurricane Irene sounds serious so fellow East Coasters, please stay safe! Per my Daddy's orders, I am heading west tonight and I will return when the storm passes... hopefully Monday afternoon. The painting class has been postponed until further notice. Please visit BSD for details. I will be available to answer email.

Le Top Puppy Playdate

Wednesday, August 24, 2011

Le Top does it again! I am so in love with this set from their new fall line. I hunted down a newborn size but I have yet to click the 'buy' button. I already have something blue and fuzzy for a boy made by Carter's, but I do like Le Top's design more. What to do? Wow, the tough decisions baby clothing addicts have to make...*sigh* :)

Infant Fashion - Hug Me First

Wednesday, August 24, 2011

This gorgeous set is made by Hug Me First, a brand I have never heard of. Hmmm, pretty shocking I have never heard of them considering I am a literal slave to pima cotton and newborn sizes, lol. :) The style reminds me of Janie and Jack. Oh and in case you are wondering, pima cotton is a favorite of mine because it doesn't bunch or wrinkle during photo sessions. No messy pics for picky old me, lol! :)

This particular set is sold by Zulily--the only place I have been able to find the Hug Me First brand. I am curious about the newborn sizing. The size chart says the newborn size fits 8-10 pounds which is too big for what I need, but I am willing to give it a try. I will post an update about the sizing here when the set arrives.

Catchlights and Natural Light Photography

Friday, August 19, 2011

Hi ladies! There seems to be a little rumor circulating the doll community. This rumor is in regards to catchlights-- or reflected light seen in the eyes of dolls in photographs.

Many seem to think catchlights are only caused by artificial light sources such as flashes and strobes. The truth is, catchlights can be achieved with both natural and artificial light sources. I have used both types of lighting and I always get catchlights.

These two pictures were taken using 100% natural light. I snapped them mid-afternoon with the doll facing my large patio door. It was a very sunny day and there were no lights turned on in my home. Notice the huge catchlights? *wink*

There are several ‘how to’ articles available on natural light and catchlights. Here are two of my favorites:

I hope this post helps put this little rumor to rest. :) Happy Friday!

Can't Do Prototypes

Monday, August 15, 2011

I have received inquiries regarding prototypes, and unfortunately, I am unable to meet the stringent deadlines associated with reborning sample kits. I can't respond to individual inquiries, so I am explaining here why I am unable to help out.

Reborning is not a job for me. Monday through Friday, 8 to 5, I am a human resources generalist at a Fortune 500 company running around the company building like a crazy person. In the evenings, I am mommy to an outspoken soon-to-be kindergartener. I rejoice over the two hours I am able to spend reborning each night after my sitter leaves and my kiddo is in bed. That is my ME time. :)

I have tried to do prototypes in the past and it has not worked out. I realized long ago that working strictly on independent projects (or with collectors who are not concerned with time frames) works best for me. I apologize to all who inquired and thank you all so much for the compliments on my work… and for the faith that I will reborn your kit well. :)
